Starbucks increases prices on coffee, but not food
Lovers of cafe lattes and espresso shots will need to have more cash on
hand when they frequent their local Starbucks.
The coffee chain announced that as of today, coffee drinkers will see
an average rise of $.09 tacked on their morning brews.
Starbucks spokesperson Bridget Baker said that with the rising cost in
the market comes the rising cost of the companies coffee products.
“We are always evaluating the cost of doing business, and we’ve
determined that now is an appropriate time to increase the prices due
to the cost environment in which we operate,” she said.
The price increase will be for handcrafted beverages only, excluding food,
other bottled beverages in the cold cases and merchandise, she said.

Men’s basketball season packed with home games
The campus will host 17 Mavericks men’s basketball home games during
the 2007-08 season, the most in a single season since 1959.
The wave of home games comes after last year’s difficult schedule
on the road, head coach Scott Cross said. Cross said the team played so
many road games last season so they could play more home games this season.
Three of the top players are seniors, and Cross said they will understand
the need to perform at their best. Last year’s roster had none.
“There’s more a sense of urgency with seniors,” he said.
“The others have got another year and another chance.”
Six of the Mavericks’ first seven games will be in Texas Hall. They
open the season against the University of California-Riverside on Nov.
12, followed by matches against Texas Southern on Nov. 14, North Texas
on Nov. 21, Schreiner on Nov. 26, Texas Wesleyan on Nov. 26 and Western
Illinois on Dec. 1.
