Department seeks healthy heart study volunteers
The Kinesiology Department is looking for test subjects to develop
a heart rate variability database, which will be designed to assist doctors
in determining a patient’s risk of heart disease.
Kinesiology associate professor Judy Wilson said subjects will not be
submitted to exercise, needles or pain.
Two electrodes will be attached to test subjects who will lie down in
a bed for five minutes. After the subjects perform some breathing exercises,
the bed will rotate from prone to standing.
The tests will last 30 to 45 minutes.
Wilson said those interested will be e-mailed a list of instructions to
follow before the test. Participants will be instructed to avoid a heavy
meal and abstain from caffeine and alcohol five hours before the examination.
Subjects must be between the ages of 18 and 80, male or female, and currently
healthy with no known cardiovascular disease.
Those interested should contact Judy Wilson at 817-272-3128 or jrwilson@uta.edu.

Census date, registration late fees begin Wednesday
Wednesday is the summer II census date and the day late registration
fees begin.
A $250 post-census activity fee will be charged to students attempting
to register for summer II classes after today.
John Hall, Finance and Administration vice president, said the census
is an important part of the university system.
“The census is the date that the official enrollment is recorded,”
he said. “It’s the date that is X number of days after the
beginning of the school year that tuition and enrollment numbers are recorded.”
Hall said an accurate count of the student population is necessary to
determine state funds and financial aid for the university and its students.
