Order class rings online or at bookstore by today

Today is the last day to order official university class rings.

The rings, provided by Jostens, can be ordered at the UTA Bookstore between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Students can also go to the UTA Bookstore Web site, http://www.uta.bkstr.com, to create an account to design a ring online.

University gives safety advice for severe weather

June 2007 is officially the third wettest in Metroplex history, and it’s likely to get wetter.

Below is information and some precautions university members should take this rainy season.

• A tornado watch means conditions are right for a tornado to form. A tornado warning means a tornado has been seen in the area or detected by radar. Sirens will sound.

• The university is covered by Arlington’s outdoor weather warning system, designed to alert people who are outdoors to seek shelter. People inside buildings may not be able to hear the sirens.

• Know the safest location in your building and best route to a storm shelter, which will be clearly marked in buildings. Don’t use elevators.

Recommended shelter areas: ground floors of buildings, hallways and windowless rooms.

Areas to avoid: temporary buildings (classroom trailers, modular buildings), large capacity rooms with wide ceilings (gymnasiums, auditoriums and cafeterias) and boiler and mechanical rooms, which become extremely hazardous when a building is damaged by a tornado or severe weather.
