Music Review

Bad Charlotte

Band’s latest suffers from the same emo-high school sound

Story by: Rebeka Baltazar

The Shorthorn staff
There are three basics to Good Charlotte’s songs on the band’s new album, Good Morning Revival. First, an interesting beat and melody; second, a verse-chorus-verse-chorus pattern; and finally, a chorus that plays again at the end of the song — over and over and over and over again.

Unfortunately, the group has fallen into the same conundrum that most artists face. It can’t seem to think of any decent lyrics, so it decides to drown out its juvenile rhymes with a catchy beat and distracting melody to hide the repetition.

Most of the tracks sound like a depressed 16-year-old’s journal entries. The track names alone call for this conclusion with titles like “Misery,” “All Black,” and “Broken Hearts Parade.”

“Victims of Love” adds to the emo vibe by explaining that love is a game where everyone can get hurt. Granted, the song has potential, but add the ridiculously adolescent lyrics, and all is lost.

If you’re willing to ignore the lyrics and just bob your head to the melodies, your journey back to high school won’t be bad. Beyond that, the album should be ignored.
