Movie Review

Sort of a Lucky Number

Third installment in ‘Ocean’ series gives good amount of laughs

Story by: Rebeka Baltazar

The Shorthorn staff
Ocean’s Thirteen provides a fresh look at an old game played by Danny Ocean (Clooney) and his conniving, thieving posse.

Ocean tries to help his friend Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould), who has been wronged by

backstabbing casino owner Willie Bank (Pacino).

With a slew of new gadgets that would put James Bond to shame, the group uses bribery, manipulation and impeccable timing to outwit and undermine Bank into ruin.

The cast continues its witty banter and friendly competition among the characters, and the movie has plenty of straightforward humor like the film’s predecessors.

Julia Roberts’ absence, explained at the beginning, doesn’t throw off the plot or leave audience members with too much of a void.

The only criticism is that a lot of the film’s jokes are given away in its theatrical trailers, and some of the moments are too predictable.

Overall, the movie is a nice, friendly getaway that should leave you laughing.
