Rush to the Robinsons

Latest Disney flick is stunning in 3-D

Add one smart kid, two time-traveling machines, the zest of a quirky family and some eye-boggling 3-D effects, and you’ve got the hilarious Disney animated film Meet the Robinsons.

This all-ages animated movie is entertaining, with obvious cute humor for the kids and subtle adult humor sprinkled throughout. The fusion of comedy and stunning 3-D graphics creates a fantastic feature for animation lovers.

The plot revolves around a brilliant boy named Lewis, an aspiring inventor who was abandoned as an infant and wants to find his real mother.

He invents a memory-retrieval machine to help him in his search, only to have it stolen by the movie’s creepy antagonist, Bowler Hat Guy.

A teenager named Wilbur Robinson travels back in time to bring Lewis to the future and introduce him to the zany Robinson family.

The family and Lewis join forces against Bowler Hat Guy to get back Lewis’ invention, along with the glory and wealth the invention will give its owner, in a final battle of wits, meat cannons and a dinosaur.

With each film, Disney pushes the envelope with even more realistic graphics and, with this movie, an impressive 3-D aspect.

While wearing the 3-D glasses might seem childish or uncool, the extra effect it adds to the movie makes one disregard losing style points for donning not-so-stylish eyewear. The amazing quality will have the audience flinching away from characters and objects flying from the screen, making viewers semi-dizzy from visual overload.

Any other movie watched shortly after this one will seem boring and uneventful.

It was a little odd that the cast didn’t have more modern stars. Granted, Angela Bassett is still a goddess, Harland Williams can be the typecast goofball in any movie, and Adam West had a good run in TV’s “Batman,” but a more star-studded cast tends to benefit a movie.

The cast provided did, however, bring their characters to life and worked well as a team.

This movie will definitely jump off the reels and into history as one of the most entertaining and technical animated films Disney has ever created.
