Mavs sign runner from Fort Worth high school

The men's track team will have added another top athlete to its roster by the fall season.

Armando Saldivar, a Fort Worth North Side High School runner, signed a national letter of intent during the break to run cross country and track at UTA for the 2006 fall season.

Salvidar was a member of the North Side High team that won its first state cross country championship last November. He finished second at the meet with a time of 15:52.80.

Saldivar has earned all-state honors by the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas the last two years and won the University Interscholastic League Region I Meet in Lubbock by more than 30 seconds with a time of 15:52.80.

As a junior, Salvidar finished 12th at the state meet with a 15:55.20 while North Side finished third with 99 total points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Guard holds 11 of 13 conference spots

The Maverick women's basketball team (10-5, 4-0) is tied for first in the Southland Conference. Part of this success is due to the force of junior guard Terra Wallace. At 5'7", she is sixth in the SLC in blocked shots and is ranked in the top 20 in overall and defensive rebounding.

Wallace is in the top 20 in 11 out of 13 total categories. She is not ranked in the top 10 in offensive rebounding or field goal percentage.

The article "Mavs sign runner from Fort Worth high school" should have stated that Armando Saldivar signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period in November.
