DECEMBER 2, 2005

Thursday’s story “Student wakes from 7-day coma,” should have stated that Ashley Willis was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Thursday’s summary deck that accompanied the story “Mavs lose to SMU Wednesday night” should have stated that the score of the Mavericks women’s basketball game against Southern Methodist University was 67-58.


DECEMBER 1, 2005

Tuesday’s editorial “Too Busy for Dead Week,” should have stated that the week before finals is Final Review Week, as specified in the University Undergraduate Catalog. During this week, instructors can’t assign anything but can have assignments due and administer any examinations as long as they don’t count as 10 percent or more of the final grade, except makeup tests or laboratory examinations. No instructor can give any portion of the final examination during Final Review Week.


NOVEMBER 30, 2005

In the Nov. 18 article, “Framing His Mind,” the story should have stated that Spanish graduate student John Powell traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico, as part of the Study Abroad program and engaged in his photography projects outside classes.

In Tuesday’s article, “New proposal ails senators,” the attribution to Sawyer refers to Student Congress President Josh Sawyer.


NOVEMBER 23, 2005

The information in Tuesday’s graphic titled “Tuition Breakdown” that accompanied the story “Flat rate proposed for tuition” was provided by the Office of the Provost.


NOVEMBER 22, 2005

Wednesday’s story “Multicultural centers move into lower level UC” should have stated that the Center for Multicultural Cooperation will move into the Dean of Students’ suites.

Friday’s story “Petition created to extend safety service” should have attributed the quote, “It has certainly given people reassurance. It lends a sense of security,” to Lt. William Cox.


NOVEMBER 15, 2005

Friday’s story “Assembly addresses concerns over proposed grading system” should have stated that biology associate professor James Grover, also the Graduate Assembly chair, addressed the assembly with student concerns from the Undergraduate Assembly meeting held on Nov. 1.

In Wednesday’s issue, the photo caption with the story “VP working to bring more performers here” should have stated that Frank Lamas is the vice president for Student Affairs.


NOVEMBER 11, 2005

In Tuesday’s story, “Burglary suspect flees, not caught,” Jennifer Hurley should have been identified as a journalism junior.


NOVEMBER 9, 2005

Tuesday’s story “Students Clash on Proposition 2” should have attributed the quote, “I’m not homophobic — I support gay rights — I just don’t believe in same-sex marriage,” to nursing freshman Jim Rachels.


NOVEMBER 3, 2005

Wednesday’s story “Grading system report analyzed,” should have stated that the Plus Minus grading system was discussed at the Undergraduate Assembly meeting and that no vote was taken.


NOVEMBER 2, 2005

In Friday’s story “Movin’ Mavs beat champions,” the name of wheelchair basketball player Jay Russell was incorrect.


NOVEMBER 1, 2005

In Friday’s story “Silence the Violence,” the title of Social Work Dean Santos Hernandez’s title was incorrect.

In Thursday’s story “The Literature Connection,” the summary headline should have read, “English professor edits book about American Indian culture.”


OCTOBER 28, 2005

Thursday’s story “Scraps of Life” should have stated that Drex Davis is president of Scrapbook.com, an online scrapbooking store.


OCTOBER 27, 2005

Wednesday’s Campus Brief “Chests to raise money for breast cancer awareness” should have stated that public relations junior Melanie Podzielinski was Zeta Tau Alpha’s service chair.

Wednesday’s story “KC Hall water shut off” should have stated sensors detected the leak around 4 p.m. Monday.


OCTOBER 26, 2005

Majority rejects new fees” in Tuesday’s issue should have stated that a plurality of the students at the Dean’s Forum declined to approve the proposed fees. Of those surveyed at the forum, 47 percent voted against the fees, and the remaining either approved the fees or had no opinion.


OCTOBER 20, 2005

In Tuesday’s story, “Science council gives advice on class schedules,” the quote by biology senior Andy Coffey regarding the difficulty of the university’s Genetics and Biochemistry courses as compared to others in the nation should have stated, “I hear that both those classes are renowned for being ‘holy crap’ hard.” This story should have also stated that the course Directed Study requires departmental approval.


OCTOBER 19, 2005

Tuesday’s story “Breaking the Fast” should have stated that according to doctoral student Misjudeen Raji, Muslims pray five times a day.

Friday’s story “Arlington loses Bush library bid” should have stated that four finalists were named in the library selection process Oct. 12, according to an Arlington Star-Telegram article.


OCTOBER 11, 2005

In Thursday’s story, “NanoFab funding may jump,” Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s name was misspelled.

Friday’s story, “Physicist presents nano discoveries,” should have stated that the basic research deriving the Internet was conducted by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (also known as Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire).


OCTOBER 7, 2005

In Thursday’s story “NanoFab funding may jump,” the “By the Millions” information box should have stated that the congressional funds listed were applied to the Strategic Partnership for Research in Nanotechnology (SPRING).

In Thursday’s “World Class” information graphic accompanying the story “Spaniolo, dean to travel to China,” Beijing was misspelled.

Tuesday’s story “Super Poetry” should have stated that Chris Murray is the UTA Writing Center director.


OCTOBER 5, 2005

In Tuesday’s article, “Academic Integrity Week kicks off,” Provost Dana Dunn’s anecdote should have stated she was a victim of cheating in graduate school.


OCTOBER 4, 2005

Friday’s editorial should have stated that a student who gets an 84 under the plus-minus grading system would receive a B.

In Thursday’s “International Lunch” story, Barcelona and Paris should have been listed as cities.


SEPTEMBER 20, 2005

In Friday’s “Rape, sex focus of seminar” story, Greek Life coordinator Mike Taddesse’s name and title were printed incorrectly.

Friday’s “Executive director selected” story should have stated that Tarrant County College is one of the institutions with which UTA/Fort Worth Executive Director Michael West hopes to continue developing relationships.

The photo in Friday’s “Executive director selected” story was of Fred Henry, assistant dean of students and Multicultural Services director. UTA/Fort Worth Executive Director Michael West’s photo appears in the correction at the bottom of this story.

On Thursday’s Scene page, film junior Damaris Gloria’s name was printed incorrectly.

Thursday’s Scene story, “Pick Your Pleasure,” should have stated that the company Pure Romance recently started a college tour for sexual education.

Friday’s story, “ID numbers to be changed,” should have stated that Chauncey Jackson is the university’s Social Security coordinator.


SEPTEMBER 6, 2005

The Aug. 30 story, “Student voice to join Board of Regents,” should have stated that each university system in Texas will have one student regent.


SEPTEMBER 1, 2005

Tuesday’s story, “UTA budget up 7.5 percent,” should have stated that each university system in Texas will have one student regent and applications for the UT System student regent.

The Aug. 22 sports facts that ran in the rail should have stated that most Mavs athletic events would be broadcast on UTA Radio.


August 24, 2005

Monday’s story, “Warm Welcome,” should have stated that volunteers were available to help both freshmen and upper-classmen move into dorms.
