‘Weak News’ has its own weaknesses
Re: “Weak News,” June 14
In C J Patton’s article, “Weak News,” published
by The Shorthorn on June 14, he stated:
“Our image abroad has already been tarnished by the supposed
“torturing” of prisoners at Guantanamo —the majority
of which is reminiscent of fraternity hazing, Animal House style...”
I think you’ve totally nailed it on the head, Mr. Patton.
Yup, Guantanamo Bay is a totally rad party — a beer-guzzling,
testosterone festival, a testament to the only thing good about
America — drinkin’ beer and kickin’ butt.
Nah, they didn’t really degrade anyone, they were merely having
a little fun. They just decided that stacking naked detainees was
a pretty cool idea. No harm done, right? Those detainees should
toughen up. It’s not like hazing is illegal or something or
that it is considered dangerous because it has cost people their
lives.
I find it appalling that you can make such brazen, insensitive and
false claims when you are admonishing Newsweek for doing the exact
same thing.
Also, you stated, “My gut instinct is that this is horrible
journalism at best, or an anti-war bias coming out at worst.”
It’s OK Mr. Patton. You can say it. Democrats are ruining
the country with their bad journalism and anti-American/anti-war
bias. They have infiltrated the media and are trying to give the
U.S. a bad name to the rest of the world. If the Republicans were
in charge of the media, everyone else would understand that this
is all just a matter of a bunch of mixed-up American kids engaging
in some wholesome, homegrown “hazing.”
Hey, I bet that the next time this happens, we’ll just put
a picture of John Belushi in his all-too-famous “COLLEGE”
sweater, and everything will just be dandy. That’ll show those
Democrats who’s boss!
Now instead of looking like a country that has committed heinous
crimes against basic human rights, we’ll just look like fat
drunk slobs.
But it’s OK, I’m going to just chalk up your mistake
to “bad journalism.”
