Campus Briefs

Kick back with EX.C.E.L. for Concert and Cocktails

EX.C.E.L. Campus Activities will host Concert and Cocktails at the Architecture courtyard on Tuesday from 6 p.m.-12 a.m.

The free event will feature the Tommy-O band. Waqar Ghani, EX.C.E.L. entertainment and arts director, said the band plays a wide variety of music ranging from island and margaritaville to Latin, jazz and blues.

People attending the event will be treated to snacks such as cookies and fruit kabobs and an assortment of other foods. Ghani said beer and possibly some other beverages will be sold at the concert, and EX.C.E.L. will also offer its own free nonalcoholic cocktail, the mocktail.

Ghani said Concert and Cocktails is an open evening event for the UTA community to take time out and relax.

“It’s just something for them to do during the summer to keep campus life alive and just have a good time,” he said. “Whether they want to dance on the dance floor or just lay back, we just want to provide a comfortable atmosphere.”

Campus Recreation to host summer Hold ’Em tourney

Campus Recreation is keeping up with the new wave of poker enthusiasts.

Intramural sports is hosting a free Summer Texas Hold ’Em Poker Tournament at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the second floor of the Activities Building.

Registration is from 6 to 6:50 p.m.

Chris Muller, intramural sports assistant director, said tournaments usually last two to three hours depending on the number of entries.

First- and second-place winners receive $75 and $25 gift cards, respectively, to the UTA Bookstore.

Campus Recreation hosted a poker series last fall, but this is the first tournament held in the summer.
