Monster.com helps students
market themselves for jobs
Executives from companies like Target, Verizon Wireless and American
Airlines will speak to about 300 students Saturday and Sunday in
the University Center’s Rosebud Theatre.
The students were selected as part of Monster.com’s Diversity
Leadership Program, and the total group, of about 1,800, were divided
into six locations including Arlington, New York, Chicago and Los
Angeles.
The corporations will teach students ways to prepare for careers
and how to market themselves for a job.
“It’s very empowering,” said Mark Shapiro of Monster.com.
“For many students, it’s a life-changing experience.”
Shapiro said the program has been hosted at UTA three out of its
four years. He said the company was very pleased with its initial
experience here and decided to return.
Applicants must be sophomores, juniors or seniors with a GPA of
3.0 or higher and be currently enrolled or have intent to enroll
at a four-year college.
Students have to supply their own transportation to the seminar,
so many are from this area, Shapiro said.
