Public relations alumnus Robert Schoendienst worked as a teller
for Bank of America throughout his college career. Once he graduated,
he changed directions and began working as a car salesman in the
family business.
After nine months of long hours and commission-based pay, Schoendienst
said he decided to return to Bank of America.
“I was tired of working off commission, and I knew that if
I worked hard enough, I could move up and start a career in the
banking business,” he said.
After six months he was promoted to senior loan officer, and two
years later, he became a JP Morgan Chase Bank branch manager.
“My advice to getting a job after graduation is to either
get an internship or have some type of work experience in the field
that you are pursuing,” Schoendienst said.
Ntursing alumnus Kyle Simpson said that finding a job was not difficult
at all.
“There is a shortage in nursing, especially male nurses, so
it was not hard for me to find a job,” he said.
Prior to graduation, Simpson was required to take a Leadership and
Management in Nursing, a senior level nursing class. The students
were taught how to create high-quality résumés and
perform well in interviews.
“The class really helped prepare me for interviews and lead
me in the right direction for finding a job,” Simpson said.
Due to leads and preparation provided by UTA, Simpson accepted a
job that he was offered two months prior to graduation. Simpson
now works as a nurse at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. He plans to further
his career in nursing management.
