For students, the search for jobs has become somewhat of a scavenger
hunt.
Career Services will host a career fair beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday
in the University Center Bluebonnet Ballroom.
The UTA Hold ’Em Employer Showcase will feature more than
40 businesses, including Citicards, Dallas Independent School District
and RadioShack, that offer full- and part-time positions and internships.
“We are here to facilitate the matching of employers’
jobs to the right students,” said Cheri Butler, Business Career
Services coordinator. “We teach people how to get jobs, not
get them jobs.”
These are not necessarily job interviews but a networking opportunity
for those who wish to secure future interviews.
“Around 70 percent of internships turn into job offers,”
Butler said.
Career Services offers tips to those who wish to attend:
•Dress appropriately; it’s important to give a good
first impression.
•Bring at least 25 to 30 résumés as well as
change to make copies.
•Be prepared with a greeting and a good summation of what
position you are interested in.
•Be flexible.
•Follow up with companies that have shown interest.
