More than 230 bands to
play at festival
Groupies and music aficionados will overtake Dallas this weekend
as the city hosts the New Music Festival.
Held in Deep Ellum, more than 230 bands will rock out on 12 stages
throughout the district, featuring music genres such as rock, metal,
hip hop, Americana and pop. Locals like The Burden Brothers, A Dozen
Furies and The Vanished may draw the crowds, but the festival aims
to expose emerging talent, stated on its Web site http://www.newmusicfestival.com.
English junior Katie Ladd said she’ll be at the festival to
support new bands. She said she is most looking forward to hearing
her friends’ band, The Numbers Twist.
“People should go [to the festival] because they need to be
more aware of the new music scene and what they’re missing
out on,” Ladd said.
The shows will last from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
All venues will admit ages 17 and up.
The festival involves more than just shows. A music industry panel
will be available Saturday for aspiring musicians to meet record
label representatives. The festival culminates in Sunday’s
Bowling for Rock Tournament, a bowling tournament for musicians,
radio stations, music clubs and record labels.
Free passes can be obtained before the festival starts at Scion
of Dallas at 2610 Forest Lane until Wednesday, or attendees can
buy passes on the festival’s Web site or at the participating
clubs for $10.
