Seminar to inform students about
dangers of hazing
The Student Judicial Affairs, the Dean of Students and UTA Greek
Life offices will host a seminar on hazing at 12:30 p.m. today in
the University Center Rosebud Theatre.
Attendees will be shown the video “Unless A Death Occurs:
Hazing Examined,” a documentary done by members of Psi Epsilon
Chi fraternity at Plattsburgh State University in New York.
The documentary is about Plattsburgh freshman Walter Dean Jennings,
who died in March 2003 after he drank several gallons of water through
a funnel.
Tami Watson, Student Judicial Affairs assistant director, said that
after the film, members from the UTA Police Department, Greek Life
and a few students will answer questions.
Keisha Dicks, attorney for the students, will also be on the panel
to answer legal questions.
“The documentary triggers how hazing affects a person but
also the legal implications of it,” she said.
The seminar is part of a week-long series of events to examine the
effects of hazing.

School cooks for social work students,
faculty to meet
Social Work Dean Santos Hernandez and faculty are grilling hamburgers,
vegetarian burgers and hot dogs for new social work students from
11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the Social Work Complex courtyard.
The Faculty Flipper is an annual event
planned by the Social Work Constituency Council.
“It’s a nice opportunity to get faculty and students
together outside of the classroom,” assistant professor Shannon
Collier-Tenison said.
The casual environment allows students and faculty to get to meet
while enjoying lunch, weather permitting, she said.
