with Fort Worth center, improve graduate studies.

The Shorthorn assistant news editor
President James Spaniolo and Provost Dana Dunn
have named Michael West as executive director of UTA/Fort Worth
on Wednesday.
Dr. West said he previously served as interim director and assistant
dean in the College of Business.
“I’m responsible for the management and integration
of UTA into the Fort Worth community,” he said.
He said plans to build a downtown center in Fort Worth are being
discussed but said details are not available. West said he hopes
to continue developing relationships with public and private institutions
such as Texas Christian University and Tarrant County Community
College and to foster relationships with leading employers in Fort
Worth.
“We’ve got to develop relationships with all these institutions,
so all the students have access to those graduate programs,”
he said.
Spaniolo said he and Dunn picked West because of his extensive experience.
Spaniolo said future plans for the center include expanding the
graduate programs that already include business, engineering, social
work and upper-division classes.
“Our intent is for the program to grow,” he said.
He said students could receive a bachelor’s degree in business
administration with a concentration in management without having
to leave the Northeast and Northwest campuses of Tarrant County
Community College.
West said the center offers master’s programs that allow groups
of students to take the same classes for several semesters to learn
together.
“They get to know each other and develop lifelong relationships,”
he said.
