Campus Briefs
Winter session rooms must be reserved
by 5 p.m. today
Student residents living on campus have until 5 p.m. today to sign
up and reserve a room for the winter session.
The only available residence halls during the winter break, which
lasts from Dec. 10 to Jan. 13, are Lipscomb North and South and
Kalpana Chawla Hall.
Enrollment in classes is not required, but the halls are only open
to current residents, said Wyl Parker, Housing and University Center
director and assistant vice president for management services.
Parker said the winter session fee for living in Lipscomb is $335
and KC Hall is $400 to $600, depending on the room size.

Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity hosts poetry open mic
Students can enjoy a night of jazzy lyrics and outspoken individuals
at 7:30 tonight in the University Center San Jacinto and Neches
rooms.
The open mic night, “Satisfaction Guaranteed,” is for
students wanting to enjoy an environment of spoken words by listening
to poetic rapping, flowing and singing.
Interdisciplinary studies senior Gabrielle Donley is helping host
the event and said that students should come to express themselves
in a “naturalistic form.”
“It’s strictly for people who enjoy spoken word, poetry
and emceeing,” she said. “It’s to bring people
of like minds on campus together.”
She said Alpha Phi Alpha, the multicultural fraternity, is co-sponsoring
the event. She said the purpose is for students to enjoy poetry
and not to support the fraternity.
“If you feel like blessin’ the mic, then come through,”
she said.
