SC seeks more input in future searches
The resolution’s adoption
comes too late to affect the presidential search.

The Shorthorn staff
Student Congress adopted a resolution Tuesday requesting more student
representation in future presidential searches.
Senators unanimously approved the resolution, written by SC President
Josh Warren, that seeks to revise the UT System Board of Regent’s
rules regarding student input into presidential searches.
If approved by regents, the resolution would grant an additional
student seat on future presidential search committees. The current
rules give students one seat and faculty three.
“Sometimes with just one student representative on a committee,
the representative doesn’t like to interrupt the flow the
administrators have at the meeting,” Engineering Senator Brandon
Krausse said. “Having another representative there will help
to give the representative more of a voice. It will give them some
support.”
Now that the resolution is adopted, it will be forwarded to the
UT System Student Advisory Council and directly to the regents for
their consideration. System adoption of the resolution would not
be complete in time to affect the current presidential search.
“More student representatives can’t be a bad thing,
especially on the presidential search committee,” Liberal
Arts Senator Cody Lewis said. “It would give a few more students
a chance to meet with administrators.”
Another measure adopted proposes changing the UTA logo used on collegiate
license plates issued by the Department of Transportation. Collegiate
license plates are specialty plates that cost $30 in addition to
annual vehicle registration fees. A new design has not been created,
and senators suggest holding a design competition open to UTA students
and faculty.
