Department sponsors depression
screenings
The Counseling Services Department and Health Services will sponsor
a free Depression Screening Event on Oct. 9 to coincide with National
Depression Screening Day.
Screening sessions will be at 12:30 and at 6 p.m. and are open to
students and the public. Both sessions will be at the UTA Counseling
Services Office at 216 Davis Hall.
“The program includes a written screening, after which they
will meet with a professional staff person to go over the results,”
said Renda Hawkins, a counseling specialist.
Each of the two-hour sessions will include a lecture on depression,
followed by a question-and-answer session and video presentation.
Psychologist Colleen Trimble will hold the 12:30 p.m. lecture, while
Counseling Services Director Kenneth Farr will hold the 6 p.m. session.

3 sessions aim to guide students into teaching
The College of Education will discuss careers in teaching Wednesday
and Thursday for students considering the a career in the field.
Wednesday’s session, from noon to 1 p.m. in the University
Center’s San Saba Room, will include teachers and principals
from different grade levels.
From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the same day, students interested in graduate
programs can attend a forum in the University Center Guadalupe Room.
Linda Denson will discuss her experience as a former teacher and
principal during Thursday’s session from noon to 1 p.m. in
the University Center’s Rio Grande Ballroom. “Thursday’s
session is open to anyone who has even remotely considered teaching
as a career choice,” adviser Jennifer Graham said.
